Marjorie Kaleha

Marjorie is a Research and MEL Specialist with over 13 years of experience leading complex research programmes, multi-country evaluations, and consultancy assignments across East Africa. She has designed and managed independent research across the health, governance, and development sectors, partnering with major funders including USAID, UNDP, UNICEF, and the World Bank. Her expertise spans mixed-methods research design, longitudinal and RCT-based research, outcome harvesting, political economy analysis, research proposal development, and translating evidence into policy-relevant recommendations for government and institutional stakeholders.

Earlier in her career, she served as a Monitoring Officer for SoCha/USAID Kenya, directing third-party monitoring systems for governance, health, and nutrition portfolios across five counties, and coordinating Social and Behaviour Change research initiatives that reached over 25 million Kenyans. She has also led national value chain studies across 10 counties, conducted RCT-based research with 6,000 participants for the Population Council’s Adolescent Girls Initiative, and delivered midline and impact evaluations across Kenya, Rwanda, Malawi, and Uganda for Kantar. Marjorie has directed research teams and is proficient in STATA, SPSS, NVivo, Dedoose, and KoBo Toolbox.

At AJW Africa, Marjorie leads the quantitative study and research function, overseeing the design and execution of quantitative methodologies from instrument development through to final analysis. She is responsible for structuring survey tools and sampling frameworks, ensuring data collection protocols meet rigorous statistical standards, and supervising quality assurance processes throughout fieldwork. Marjorie translates raw quantitative data into structured, decision-ready findings, working closely with the broader research team to ensure that numerical evidence is accurately triangulated with qualitative insights. She also plays a key role in shaping research proposals and methodological frameworks for new AJW Africa engagements, drawing on her extensive donor-facing experience to ensure outputs meet the standards expected by institutional clients.

She holds a Master of Arts in Development Studies from St. Paul’s University, is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), and speaks English and Swahili fluently.
